Chesham

Mainly residential town in the Chiltern Hills
and although going through the usual modernisation, some attractive
buildings remain. A victim of the Industrial revolution when the railway put it within reach of the London
commuter, so that, instead of brick-nog cottages and blacksmiths' shops, it is now a place of factories and supermarkets.
The town has a twice-weekly market; a visiting fair three times a year; a wealth of organisations
and societies; churches of most demoninations; a comprehesive selection of shops;
a diversity of large and small scale industry; local restaurants and public houses both in town and in the surrounding villages.

Residents and visitors to Chesham benefit from a wealth of man-made and natural leisure facilities. The town's rural
location, protected by the Green Belt, provides many beauty spots and other features of geographical
and historical interest, all within easy striking distance.

Thomas Harding was the forerunner of many Chesham dissenters, in witness of which meeting-places and citadels of Baptists, Calvinists, Congregationalists, Quakers, Salvationists, Wesleyans, Zionists and United Free mix freely together in the middle of the town and spread towards the outskirts, while right in the centre the lovely perpendicular church of St Mary tries to put the record straight with a cross in the churchyard bearing the inscription: 'To the Glory of God and to the Memory of Thomas Harding, Martyr of Dunsgrove, Chesham.

Tour the old town not forgetting to visit the Queens Head, to find out more and see locations and settings for many TV dramas and films including: Four Weddings and a Funeral, Midsomer Murders, Inspector Morse, Dad's Army, Pie in the Sky and the Professionals.
